Vaccine against herpes simplex virus type 2 infection

A new strategy to develop a vaccine against herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) infection, the most common sexually transmitted infection in the world .The virus can also cause life-threatening encephalitis and meningitis in newborns and immunocompromised patients. A major issue is that HSV-2 infected patients also suffer a three-fold increased risk of HIV acquisition.
